Apartment Living with Dogs: Which Breeds are Best Suited?
Not all future dog owners own a home with a large yard. Even if you rent an apartment, you can still have a dog. There are some dog breeds which are easier to maintain and more suitable for apartment living.
Some dog owners believe that their animal companions will only be happy in a large home with a large garden. The dog will appreciate the extra space, but it’s not a reason to avoid buying the house.
It also depends on the amount of time the family spends with the dog. A large garden is not enough to make a pet happy.
The size of the dog does not always matter
Small apartment, small dog? This assumption may be true for some breeds but not all mini dogs are suitable for apartment living. It depends more on the temperament, character and work ethic of the dog. A Chihuahua that is only 30 centimeters in size may be small, but it has a reputation for being a loud barker. Its nervousness and anxiety do not make it a good apartment dog. The Great Dane, on the other hand, can be kept indoors in spite of its size. It requires less exercise and is calmer than many other dogs.
When buying a dog, it is important to ensure that the pet has a calm temperament, does not bark excessively, and doesn’t need a lot of exercise. German Shepherds and other hunting or herding breeds such as Labrador Retrievers Golden Retrievers Irish Setters, Border Collies, Labrador Retrievers can only be housed indoors for a short time because of their high energy levels. They need more exercise than just a walk, so having a garden in the house is a great idea.
Dog breeds suitable for apartment living include the Maltese, Pug and Bulldog.
Small dogs that are tolerant, or beginner dogs, make excellent apartment pets. They are calm, friendly and patient with people. If they are accompanied by someone who is always with them, and also creates games and jobs in the apartment, it’s enough to go outside and exercise once a week.
Breeds like the Bichon Frise or French and English Bulldogs, Cavalier King Charles, Havanese Pug, Poodle, Havanese or Cavalier are all considered beginner dogs. You can also keep the Maltese in an apartment. The Maltese’s coat is ideal for this: It sheds little and requires very little care. Schnauzer and Beagle are also suitable.
Keep your dog in the apartment – Employment is important
Even if you think your apartment dog will need less exercise, it is important to remember that all four-legged friends require daily exercise and a walk. Try to furnish your apartment in a way that is dog-friendly, and give him plenty of exercise.
You should make sure that there is enough room for your friend to run around. You can play hide-and seek in your apartment, or toss the ball or stick at times in a closed room. Spread carpets. This will muffle sounds from paws or scratching nails. It will be nice for your dog to have a window so he can see outside. A bench can be enough to allow the dog to reach the window.
