Tips for Homemade Dog Food with Fish
Fish in dog food is healthy and delicious for our furry friends. Fish is a great source of animal protein and healthy fats for your dog.
You may have made homemade dog food if you like to cook. If you want to add variety to your dog’s diet, fish is a great alternative. Before you cook large quantities of fish specialties for your dogs, try them first to see if they like them. Not all dogs like the taste.
Safety first: homemade dog food with fish
Salmon, tuna, or trout are all good choices for dog food containing fish. You should only feed cooked fish. When you feed your dog fish, it’s important to remove any bones before serving. You don’t want them to be injured by the meal you’ve lovingly prepared. If bones are swallowed, they can cause internal injuries.
Fish cakes for dogs: a recipe idea using fish
As a starter for homemade dog food, fish cakes are a good choice. You will need one pound of fillet pollock, a cup milk, two wheat rolls and a banana. Let the wheat buns soak up the milk and then mash the banana using a fork. Cook the fillet of pollock in some water, and then let it simmer a few minutes more. After the fish has been cooked, cut it into pieces and combine them with the banana purée and the softened rolls. You can then make meatballs out of the pulp. These are easy to feed your dog.
Also good for dogs: rice and fish
Mix 250 grams cooked fish with half a liter water and equal amounts of rice. You can also add two carrots and a celeriac to the additional portion of vegetables. Serve the dog food only after it has cooled and so that your furry nose is not burned.
