Distinguishing Between French and English Bulldogs

Their appearance can already tell them apart. The ears are the most obvious difference. Do the adorable dogs differ in their attitude and care as well?

The French Bulldog is characterized by erect ears. However, the English Bulldog’s ears are cropped. The British cousins of bat-eared dog are also larger than their French counterparts.

Here’s how French Bulldogs and English Bulldogs look different

English Bulldogs also stand out from their French cousins due to the large head that makes them appear larger and more stocky than the smaller French Bulldog. The English Bulldog’s underbite is more prominent than that of their French cousins.

Both Bulldogs have skin folds, but the English Bulldog’s is slightly deeper than the French Bulldog’s.

What is the difference between attitude and care?

The French Bulldog is a dog that likes to please his master and mistress, and so it is relatively easy to train. English Bulldogs, on the other hand, require more experienced owners because they are stubborn. The English Bulldog requires more consistency than the bat-eared dog, but you should still be fair. Bulldogs can be quite sensitive, and they do not like a harsh tone.

The English Bulldog, as well as the French Bulldog, are both prone to breathlessness. Their wrinkles need to be regularly cleaned and groomed. French Bulldogs can freeze in cold weather, and they may require a winter coat. In contrast, their English cousins tend to suffer in the summer. The English, on the other hand, tend to suffer more in summer.

The two bulldog breeds have a different life expectancy

The French Bulldog lives slightly longer than the English Bulldog. The average life expectancy of the English Bulldog is eight to ten. However, the French variety can live up to twelve. How old your dog lives ultimately depends on many factors and not just its breed. Dogs can live longer than the average if they are given the right training and care, have a healthy diet and regular vet visits (especially when they age). A dog’s life expectancy can be shortened by being overweight, not getting enough exercise, or working too much.
