Respectful interactions looks different. Dog greeting etiquette. Follow these steps if you want to pet a stranger’s dog:
* Request permission from the owner.
 He knows how his dog reacts when it is approached by strangers. Do not skip this step because the dog appears friendly. Even the most friendly creatures can bite if they are threatened.
* Aim slowly.
 You can approach the dog confidently and slowly if you have permission from the owner. A hasty movement could make him frightened and angry. Be aware of the animal’s behavior. Is it intimidated?
Let your dog sniff you.
 Hold out your hand to the dog and let him smell it. Talk to him to calm the mood. If he is still interested, only then should you pet him.
* Avoid any harsh movements.
 Touch the animal gently. Scratching him on the head is not as good as scratching under the chin. Always face your dog so that he can see you.

You will both be grateful to the owner and dog if you follow these simple steps.
