Key Considerations Before Purchasing a Great Dane: 8 Things to Know

Great Danes are very large, heavy dogs that are also extremely adorable; making them the ideal family pet if properly considered before purchasing one. Before making this important investment, however, some key things should be taken into consideration before purchasing.

Although Great Danes may seem intimidating at first glance, with heights reaching 80 centimeters at their withers, their temperament belies this appearance. Instead, these gentle animals have one of the friendliest personalities among dog breeds due to their gentle, sensitive, and affectionate disposition. Still, you should keep certain factors in mind before purchasing such a four-legged companion.

Keep this in mind when purchasing: Think Big!

Fact 1: A Great Dane will be massive! Males typically reach at least 80 centimeters of shoulder height while females average 72 centimeters on average; there are however rare individuals that exceed this, such as Giant George who measured an impressive withers height of 109 cm! But don’t take my word for it if a Great Dane attempts to claim your lap as its favorite spot! It happens often enough!

Fact 2: Due to their size, Great Danes require plenty of room. Finding an adequate basket may prove challenging but comfort is a priority – before purchasing, make sure that their sleeping area is sufficient – an oversized pillow or child mattress would make an excellent option; these will fit easily fill out when fully grown! Furthermore, due to lacking an undercoat these four-legged companions should remain indoors with their owners.

Close relationship with the Owner

Fact 3: Great Danes have an affinity for their owners. Wherever you go, your four-legged friend will follow, even if it means going for coffee. Therefore, before purchasing such an animal it’s wise to ask yourself whether it would often be alone and whether there’s any chance it could join your work force as being alone for too long can cause mischief and depression – both factors which need to be considered when buying one of these animals.

Fact 4: Great Danes can drool quite frequently! From sleeping, eating and walking the dog to just lounging around and hanging out – no one or nothing is safe from their drool! Where dachshund drool can easily be wiped off without much fuss, when it comes to Great Dane drool it can cause much more drama and disruption if left on their face for extended periods.

A Great Dane can be extremely costly to own.

Fact 5: Quadrupeds consume enormously! While 20 kilograms of food may last at least six weeks for some dog breeds, Great Danes gobble up all that food within three weeks! Naturally this costs money; barfing your pup will add even further expenses.

Fact 6: Their lifespan is typically not as long as that of other breeds of dog; typically between six and eight years, although there have been known congeners who have lived to be ten. The rapid growth of their bodies often results in health restrictions like joint issues, bone pain or stomach bloat resulting in higher veterinary costs as a result of early death.

At once dynamic and comfortable.

Fact 7: While Great Danes enjoy walks, they also adore lounging around on your sofa at least as much. Don’t get the idea that taking her jogging will be easy – chances are she may need to do it by herself – longer car rides don’t worry this breed; all it needs to feel satisfied is a cozy spot in the trunk for comfort!

Fact 8: Finally, especially during its first year or two of life, animals often struggle with controlling their large bodies. A full-grown Great Dane weighs up to 90 kilograms but if young, may not yet properly assess this and may rush over to greet you instead – be wary!
